Futur Montréal proudly announces the candidacy of Svetlana Chernienko in the CDN–NDG Loyola district
Montreal, QC – August 29, 2025, Futur Montréal is honored to announce that Svetlana Chernienko, a recognized national human rights leader, mental health advocate, and entrepreneur, will be the party's official candidate in the Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (CDN–NDG) Loyola district in the upcoming municipal elections. For over twenty years, Svetlana has transformed adversity into action, establishing herself as one of the most powerful and credible voices for change in Montreal and across Canada. A survivor of domestic violence and the proud mother of an autistic child, Svetlana has dedicated her life to transforming her personal challenges into a force for collective impact.
A Voice for Justice and Mental HealthSvetlana's leadership has impacted many public spaces. She has served as a national spokesperson for Jack.org, alongside global icon Selena Gomez, to advance youth mental health, and as a spokesperson for Women Aware, advocating for women experiencing gender-based violence. She has also served as an ambassador for Welcome Hall Mission, supporting vulnerable families and those experiencing homelessness and poverty in Montreal.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Svetlana became a key national voice in Canadian media, appearing on Global News, CityNews, Radio-Canada, and CTV, helping people navigate collective grief, anxiety, and mental health challenges with compassion and clarity. Her leadership instilled hope in the midst of one of the most challenging times in recent history.
