Futur Montréal obtains official status as a political party
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Montreal, July 14, 2025
Futur Montréal is now officially authorized as a municipal political party in the City of Montreal.
Co-founded by Joel DeBellefeuille and Matthew Kerr, the movement has gained popularity across the city thanks to its bold ideas, active community presence, and a clear promise to do politics differently. With this authorization from Élections Québec, Futur Montréal is now able to directly engage residents and the community to organize for the municipal elections on November 2, 2025.
"This is an important step, not only for us, but for all Montrealers who are waiting for a real third option.", said Joel DeBellefeuille. “Future Montreal embodies leadership based on values, transparency and accountability.”Over the past few months, Futur Montréal's message has reached hundreds of thousands of people across the city, thanks to a strategic media campaign that has rekindled discussions on civic leadership and municipal reform. The movement continues to seek partnerships and innovative tools to strengthen its ties with the population.
One such tool is Resident, a new civic engagement app developed by Baseline Telematics. Futur Montréal partnered with this platform as part of its commitment to modern, two-way communication with citizens. The app allows residents to submit service requests, suggestions, and comments, while illustrating the type of transparent, digital interactions Futur Montréal hopes to see become more widespread in municipal governance. By collaborating with Baseline, the party is laying the groundwork for more responsive communication, providing a simpler and more direct way to stay connected with the community and citizens throughout the pre-election period and beyond.
“It’s not just about listening, it’s about responding.”, said Matthew Kerr. “Resident helps bridge the gap between government and the public, and that’s exactly what Futur Montréal represents.”Now that its official status has been confirmed, Futur Montréal will continue its dialogue with residents, build on its growing momentum, and offer Montreal a strong, forward-looking alternative focused on intelligent leadership and concrete results.
